For the younger age groups (U6-U11), you don’t have to be experienced to be a Coach!
If you are enthusiastic, responsible, a good organiser and a good learner, SIFC will provide you with the resources to become a successful Coach!
Typical responsibilities:
1. Weekly Training
Organise a weekly training session for the team[20+ Weeks]. Typically one-hour sessions are ideal.
For Community Teams (non-development) training is on a Wednesday at the St Ives Showground. We book the St Ives Showground between 4pm-7pm
2. During the season
For training:
- Bring a first aid kit, bibs, balls and cones
- Plan the structure of your training before each session
- Encourage 100% player attendance and make training enjoyable and competitive
- Encourage assistance by parents. For the younger age groups, you will need an assistant!
If more than one parent offers to coach, give it a go! Work as a team!
For matches:
- Check the NSFA website (Dribl) for last minute updates on games
- Bring your SIFC Sports Bag with your match ball, GK shirt, first aid kit and a whistle.
- Organise a roster for half/part games to ensure each player has equal time off the field. Frequent interchange is allowed up to and including U18s to ensure all players participate equally.
- Determine each player’s playing positions. During the season, players in the U6-U10 age groups may be rotated through all the playing positions including the goalkeeper’s position. For U11 & upwards, players will tend to settle into specific positions and this should be encouraged. Always maintain a balance between positional rotation and team performance
- Determine the game tactics.
General:
- Make playing soccer fun, with plenty of encouragement and be positive!
- Be a knowledgeable coach! Read and talk about football with other coaches. Attend coaching clinics and courses.
- Respect the opposing team and referees, whether you approve of their actions or not.
- Support your team Manager as required and maintain a happy team!
- Always encourage your team to play to its best ability and take a balanced approach to winning.
3. At the end of the season
- Provide the Club with Coaches Reports for your team
- Provide feedback to your players
- Return Coaches Kit to the club
